Sat, 4th November – Churchyard Gardening
Help! We need extra volunteers for Churchyard gardening on Saturday 4th November 9.30-12.30. There are a lot of leaves to sweep up, and it would be good to finish tidying the 21 war graves within our churchyard before Remembrance Sunday. Please do drop in for any amount of time to give the team a hand. Children welcome under adult supervision. Refreshments provided.

Church of England Youth Council
Please pray for the Church of England youth council which is meeting this weekend in Wellingborough. This is an opportunity for members of the various diocesan youth councils to discuss topical issues. Our diocesan representative is James Willis. Please pray for the young people involved and those leading the sessions.

Due to the Government introduction of the General Data Protection Regulations, in order for your personal information to be included in the prayer directory (the new version of which will be circulated in January 2018), you will need to complete a Prayer Directory Form. Please see Julie Willis on Sunday after the 10.45am service this week or pop into the Parish Office during the week. Thank you.
Remembrance Day Flowers
Liz Samuel will be arranging flowers for our Remember Day services. She would like to include sprigs of Rosemary, a herb traditionally associated with remembrance. If you have a rosemary bush and are able to provide some sprigs for her to use, could you please bring them to the Parish Office on the afternoon of Friday, 10th November or to
St John’s Church on the morning of Saturday, 11th November?
Mon 6th November – Men’s Meal
All men welcome to join the men’s meal at The Robin Hood on the 6th November 7.45pm for 8pm. Please let John Alligan know if you would like to come along.
Thurs 9th November – Holy Spirit Evening
For all those who have been coming to the Alpha courses we have been running, and for anyone else who is interested, we are holding a special event on 9th November at 8.00pm in the church. There will be a short talk about the Holy Spirit, a testimony and a time of worship, and an opportunity to be prayed for by some of the prayer ministry team. Please speak to Sarah if you want to know more!

Operation Christmas Child (Shoe Box Appeal)
We will be packing the shoe boxes for this wonderful outreach. If you could pick up a few bits and pieces while you are shopping, we would be very grateful. Gift suggestions: Toys: dolls or stuffed toys (with CE
label), toy trucks, ball, etc. School Supplies: pens, pencils, colouring
books, etc. Hygiene Items: toothbrush and toothpaste, bars of wrapped soap, flannel. Or if you prefer, cash to pay towards the postage to send these amazing parcels. Please hand to Lucy Folkes. Thank you.

Sun 12th November – Bereavement and Thanksgiving Service
This will be the 25th Bereavement and Thanksgiving Service held at St John’s, starting at 2.30pm. Bishop Stephen will be attending. Everyone welcome.
Mon 20th November – Keith Thompson Funeral
Keith went to be with the Lord recently. His funeral will be taking place at 10.30am at the Congregational Church in Chingford, followed by cremation at 12.00noon at The City of London Crematorium. Please let the Parish Office know if you will be attending, for catering purposes.
Sat 25th November – Church Christmas Party
Put on your dancing shoes and come along to St John’s Christmas Party at 7.30pm in the church. Live music and dancing. Food and drink provided. Entry free. Donations to the Julia Bacon Young People’s Fund on the night. If you would like to come please let Steve Bacon or the Parish Office know for catering purposes. Look forward to seeing you there!
Waitrose Green Token Scheme
Waitrose store, Buckhurst Hill has kindly chosen the Commuter Outreach at Buckhurst Hill Station as one of its community support groups for November.
Please remember to ask for some tokens and add them to our box when you are shopping throughout the month, and tell all your friends & neighbours too!

Thurs 14th December – Ladies Christmas Meal
This year we will be going to The Toby Carvery, Buckhurst Hill, 7.15pm for 7.30pm. £16.50 per head to cover the meal, tip and a complimentary glass of Prosecco or soft drink alternative. Drinks can be purchased direct from the bar. Feel free to invite your friends. Forms now available from Chris Hawkins – to be completed and returned with cheque payable to Ms C Hawkins by 4th Dec at the latest.
