Getting to grips with the Prophets

Where do the Prophets fit in God’s economy of salvation?

What is it like to be a Prophet?

How do the Prophets fit together?

How do we identify Prophets today?

10.30-12.30 Saturday – lunch together afterwards

10.45-1.0pm Sunday – lunch together afterwards

Children’s activities have been arranged for those who booked in advance for this.

Volunteers are needed to help over the weekend, starting on Fri afternoon – all sorts of tasks – something to suit everyone!  If we all take one duty it could be done in a flash. Please contact Julie Willis on 020 8506 2150 to offer your help.

Deryck Selby

We have been notified this week that Deryck has gone to be with the Lord.  A service of Thanksgiving for his life will be held at St John’s in the near future.  More details to follow when arrangements have been made.

Sat 19th Jan – Quiz Night

Don’t forget to come along if you have booked a place at our fun quiz to raise funds for the invaluable Buckhurst Hill Money Advice Service.

7.00pm for 7.30pm start at Buckhurst Hill Baptist Church.

£8 per head with Ploughman’s supper included.  Please bring your own drinks and glasses.

If you are unable to attend but would like to donate, please see Lucy Folkes or Pauline Leadley.

Sat 26th Jan – Stay and Play

1.00-3.00pm in St John’s Church

Mothers’ Union are planning a stay and play for parents/carers to come along to with their children. The event is aimed at families with children aged 3+ to school year 6 (if you have children younger than 3, please feel free to bring them along with you).  There will be board games and other activities.  This event is free of charge. For further details, contact Angie Blanche 07863854013.

Thursday Evening Walks

Do you need to burn off some Christmas pounds?  Join us for an hour’s walk each Thursday evening, starting in St John’s car park at 7.00pm.

Rota Volunteers for collecting the lovely Bill

As you will know, Bill loves to join us at the 10.45am service each Sunday but needs a lift to get here.  We are in need of

more volunteers to collect and return Bill to and from Forest Place care home, Roebuck Lane.  It is a pleasure to collect Bill, who will chat and sometimes sing to you on the journey!  Please contact Sandra Assell on if you are able to support our brother Bill.

Thank you.

Open Doors Secret Devotional

Liz Todd spoke in Church recently about the wonderful work done by Open Doors to get Bibles to persecuted believers in North Korea.  The Secret Devotional Books are available for £10 from .  Every copy that is sold means that a persecuted believer in North Korea will receive the gift of a Bible.  If you would like more information, or to see a copy of the Devotional, please speak to Liz.

Volunteers needed for Evening Service Refreshment Rota

Would you be able to help with the refreshments at the evening services?  You would need to be at St John’s by 6.30pm and be happy to serve teas, coffees and wine.  The more people on the rota, the lighter the load.  Please let Angie ( know if you are able to help.  Thank you.

Home Cooking Skills

We have set the dates for this short course: Feb 9, March 2, 16 and 30 and will be held in St John’s Hall from 2.00-4.00pm.  This free course is open to everyone in the Church family who is 16 or older who would be interested in such a course.  Sign- up forms available on the Church notice board or contact Corinne Conway-Long on

Solo Sundays

Are you sometimes on your own on a Sunday and would prefer not to be?  Please join the group…..

The idea is that we will all have access to each other’s details through the group and anyone doing something (lunch, walk, gallery visit …) can post to the group and others can join

them if they wish.  I am happy to organise some events but hope that the group will generate its own activities.  No expectation that everyone will do everything – you join in when you would like to and don’t when you don’t.

If you would like to join the group, please collect a form from me or email ( your contact details (ideally I would like to set up an email/WhatsApp group to make communicating easier).  Lucy Folkes.

Mon 4th Feb – Men’s Meal

We will be meeting at 7.45 for 8.00pm for a meal at The Robin Hood.  Please confirm if you can or cannot make it.  Many thanks – John Alligan 07802 480510
