* 3rd December 7.00pm Service

This coming Sunday evening (3rd December), is usually our monthly time of worship and prayer, however this Sunday we are making space for private prayer and reflection as we begin Advent. We will begin and end with worship, and there will be prayer stations around the church where you can pause, think, reflect or pray and carve out some time to be with God as we approach the busiest season of the year.

Christmas Commuter Outreach

We shall be handing out free tea, coffee, cookies and Christmas literature to the very appreciative commuters at Buckhurst Hill Station from Mon 18th to Fri 22nd Dec from 6.30-8.30am. Please could you help serve for an hour or so on one or more mornings? If not, we need  LOADS of cookies baked (or purchased), to hand out each day.

Please contact Pauline Leadley by email paulineleadley@hotmail.com, or phone 07880628052, if you are able to help in any way. Thank you.

Prayer Ministry –  planned for Thurs 7th December

but is now postponed until January

Due to high demand of the church and the need for choir practice in the run-up to Christmas, the Prayer Ministry training has had to be cancelled. A date will be emailed out shortly…

Sun 10th December – Church Family Lunch

Don’t forget to sign up on the sheet in the Church narthex if you would like to be part of this wonderful, festive meal.  (Donations of Christmas crackers would be most welcome).

Looking for ideas for Christmas gifts?

If you’re thinking about Christmas presents, copies of “Through Martha’s Eyes”, written by Corinne Brixton, are available from the Parish Office at £7.50 per copy.

Cake & Bake Sales

Thank you to everyone who has supported our last two cakes sales.  We raised £130 for the Operation Christmas Child shoebox appeal in October and £135 for the British Legion Poppy Appeal in November.  The next cake sale will be on Sunday 10th December.  The money will be donated to the Loughton Food Bank to help them provide needy families with Christmas cheer.  Please help us to help them!

Donations for Loughton Food Bank

Loughton Food Bank always need donations to help them in their work.  It has been a while since we as a church have collected for them.  The most useful way for us to contribute is to buy supermarket cards/vouchers (easy when you are paying for your groceries at the checkout) so that their organisers can shop as things are needed.  So please remember them when you are shopping.  If many of us at St John’s could provide a card for just £5 in value (but please feel free to give more if you are able) we could give them a wonderful Christmas present.  Please put your supermarket cards into an envelope marked “Foodbank” (so they don’t get lost), bring them to church and hand to Julie Willis or Sue Dowler.  Last Sunday for collection will be 17th December, so that the cards can be delivered on the Wednesday before Christmas.  Thank you.

Mon 4th December – Men’s Meal and Carol Service

Meeting at 7.00pm at St John’s Church for a Carol Service, followed by dinner at Soiree, Queen’s Road.  Please let John Alligan (07802 480510) know if you are able to attend.

Space needed for counselling

We are exploring the options for providing free/low cost counselling, but need a suitable venue. With this in mind we are asking whether anyone has a spare room (downstairs) in their house which they could make available to a counsellor and a client, during the day or the evening. Ideally a spare downstairs room or study where they would be undisturbed. You would not need to vacate your house, just allow them to use the room for an hour’s session, at a time that would suit you, preferably once a week or more often if possible. If you are able to help, please email Adele: adeleljones1968@gmail.com or me: sarah.guinness@sjbh.org.uk     Many thanks!

Save the Dates
