Operation Christmas Child (Shoe Box Appeal)

We will soon (9 November Ladies’ Night) be packing the shoe boxes for this wonderful outreach.  If you could pick up a few bits and pieces while you are shopping, we would be very grateful.  Gift suggestions: Toys: dolls or stuffed toys (with CE label), toy trucks, ball, etc.  School Supplies: pens, pencils, colouring books, etc. Hygiene Items: toothbrush and toothpaste, bars of wrapped soap, flannel.  Or if you prefer, cash to pay towards the postage to send these amazing parcels.

Poppy Collectors needed

Please could you spare an hour or two to help with the door to door Poppy Collection in Buckhurst Hill this year? We are very short of volunteers to cover our area this year. If you can help, please call Jeff Curd on 020 8505 2384 as soon as possible. Thank you.

 

20th October – Friday Night Youth Group

A continuation of Patrick Regan’s study on “When Faith Gets Shaken”.   7.30-9.00pm in St John’s Church.  Prayer, discussion, fellowship and fun!  Open for all in school years 9 – 11.

 

 

28th October – Mothers’ Union Fund Raising Whist Drive

6.30pm for 7.00pm sharp, St John’s Centenary Hall

A sociable and fun event: Whist is a simple game of cards played in teams, everyone moves around the room playing rounds against other teams.  Suitable for all ages – full instructions given on the night.  £10 per ticket to include a Ploughman’s platter, bring your own drinks.  Tickets available from Corinne 0208 505 5824 or Lynne 0208 505 5708 or catch one of us in church.  All proceeds will go to the Mothers’ Union General Relief Fund to help families in desperate need around the World, so please do come along to support us.

 

3rd November – Cutting Edge Quiz

We are holding a fund raising quiz night and hope you can join us. We are looking for tables of up to 10 at £10 per head.
We do need to know numbers please as we have professional catering arranged in the form of a pasty, jacket potato and salad. Please bring your own drinks.
Location is St John’s, High Road, Buckhurst Hill, IG9 5RX. Time is 7pm for 7.30 start with food served at half time.. Please note this is one for the ladies too and we plan to say a bit about the ministry and how we spend funds.
To book tickets please speak to Steve York by 26th October so we can finalise catering. Please let us know how many you are booking for and whether you need any vegetarian pasties.

Guest speaker Cathy Madavan will be speaking on ‘Treasure in the messiness of life’ at Chase Cross Baptise Church, Collier Row.

14th December – Ladies Christmas Meal

This year we will be going to The Toby Carvery, Buckhurst Hill, 7.15pm for 7.30pm. £16.50 per head to cover the meal, tip and a complimentary glass of Prosecco or soft drink alternative.  Drinks can be purchased direct from the bar. Feel free to invite your friends. Forms now available from Chris Hawkins – to be completed and returned with  cheque payable to Ms C Hawkins by 4th Dec at the latest.
