Open to all. Usually every 3rd Sunday of every month, immediately after the 10.45am service and not to be missed!
Senior Men’s Fellowship
More-elderly men, generally retired and seeking friendship are invited, and will be warmly welcomed to join this group, currently 14 members, which meets monthly – usually the 3rd Tuesday – at the Mary Cotton Church Hall for lunch and conviviality. The meal and its cost are modest. Please telephone the Secretary, Derek Hall; 020 8505 1884 to discuss in more detail.
Men’s and Ladies Meals
There are regular meals out together at local restaurants, to give people the chance to get to know each other more. The Men’s meal is usually on the first Monday of each month (John Alligan 07802 480510). The Ladies’ meal tends to be once a term (Chris Hawkins, 8531 5066).
An opportunity for coffee, chat and maybe an activity or two for those who want it – second Thursday of each month at 7.45 (in the Mary Cotton Hall). It’s ‘drop in’ with a donation for coffee, very informal and hopefully a time for the ladies to relax and get to know each other better.
Pre-school children and their carers
Little Fishes is a parent toddler playgroup that meets Thursday afternoons during term time in the St John’s Mary Cotton Hall, 1.30 – 3pm. Contact Sam Lockstone on 02085062150 for more details.
The Buckhurst Hill branch of the Mothers’ Union meets once a month (September – June) on a Monday evening at 8pm, in St. John’s Church. It is a gathering of friendly ladies (although men are very welcome) of all ages who support the ideals of The Mothers’ Union, which you can read more about here: www.mothersunion.org
At each meeting we either have a speaker, an activity, or a prayer service at Christmas and Easter, with refreshments and homemade cake/biscuits! We also have meals out and theatre trips. You may only know about us from the daffodils that we distribute in Church on Mothering Sunday (or for the badly behaved, and often missing, knitted nativity set) but we would like you to know us better. We would encourage everyone to join us – for further information email firstname.lastname@example.org or call on 0208 505 5708.
Bereavement Support Group
We are a group of listeners who are here to help. If you or someone you know has been bereaved recently or in the past we can offer you understanding and support. There is the opportunity to have a visit at home, but we also meet regularly for Sunday afternoon teas. The Annual Service of Thanksgiving in November is a special time to share with family & friends.
